Inquiry "University – Profile and Positioning"
On behalf of the SUK the OAQ carried out an inquiry on the definition of „university“ and the criteria to be fulfilled to be defined as such. Interviewees were representatives from the higher education sector. The results of the inquiry are outlined in the present report.
All questions in the frame of the inquiry resulted in answers shared by a clear majority of the interviewees. The university still corresponds to the classical model of a European university, which is based on the indivisibility of teaching and research activities; an institution dealing with pure teaching or pure research is hardly conceivable as a “university”. The universitäre Hochschule / haute école universitaire / istituzione universitaria shows a certain minimum size and a diversified offer, although the relevant data vary considerably.
