Postgraduate Medical Education
The MedBG contains the following definition: “Postgraduate medical education increases competence and specialization in the corresponding field.”
The Federal Law on Medical Professions (MedBG) dated June 23, 2006, prescribes accreditation for those degree programs that lead to a federal diploma. This refers to programs in human medicine and dentistry, as well as chiropractics.
Postgraduate medical education programmes went through a first accreditation cycle in 2004/5. After that, a second round was conducted in 2009/11. In July 2011 the Federal Department of Home Affairs accredited the evaluated 43 postgraduate programmes in human medicine, 4 in dental medicine and one in chiropractic. In four cases accreditation was granted with conditions.
