Members of the Scientific Advisory Board

The members of the Scientific Advisory Board were elected in July 2001 by the Swiss University Conference (SUK/CUS) in close consultation with the Rectors' Conference of the Swiss Universities (CRUS). The Scientific Advisory Board is responsible for the scientific quality of the OAQ's work and offers its advice to the organisation. A term of office lasts four years and members may be re-elected once.

Born in 1959. 1978–1986 studied at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich and at the University of Zurich; 1983 awarded a diploma in Science of Food Engineering and in 1986 a Master in Economics; 1990 doctorate at the University of Fribourg. Subsequently, scientific collaborator at the National Emergency Operations Center (an organization of the federation) and information officer for five years. Parallel to it teaching qualification at the University of St. Gallen within «Evaluation of University Achievements». 1997 section officer for university at the Federal Office for Education and Science. Since 2001 professor of Economics at the University of Zurich and director of the Executive MBA programme of the University of Zurich.
Prof. Bernadette Charlier, PhD

Born in 1956. 1974–1979 studied psychology and educational sciences at the University of Liège (Belgium). 1979–1984 Professor at the Ecole Normale pour enseignants du secondaire I Saint Barthélemy in Liège. 1984–2000 Assistant, Lecturer and director of the multimedia center at the Facultés Universitaires Notre-Dame de la Paix in Namur. 1996 PhD in educational sciences at the Catholic University in Leuven on the topic «Apprendre et Changer sa pratique d’Enseignement». Since 2002 Professor (Professeure associée) at the Center for Higher Education didactics of the University of Fribourg.

Prof. Reinhold R. Grimm, PhD
 

Born in 1942, Reinhold Grimm attended the Universities of Tuebingen, Heidelberg, Poitiers and Paris where he majored in theology, German language and literature, philosophy and romance languages and literature. After taking his state examination in 1967 and earning his doctorate in 1971, he became a scientific assistant in Tubingen and later in Constance. He spent several semesters abroad and had teaching assignments in Perugia, Orleans and Naples, before making his postdoctoral dissertation in 1979 in Constance on general and romance literary studies. From 1998 to 2008 he chaired the Philosophical Faculty Day, between 2000 and 2008 he was also President of the General Faculty Day, and since 2003 has been acting Deputy Chairman of the University Council of the University of Vienna. Since 2007 he has also chaired the Accreditation Council (Foundation for the Accreditation of Study Programs in Germany).

Andrée Sursock, PhD
 

Andrée Sursock earned her first degree in philosophy at the University of Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne and her PhD in cultural anthropology at the University of Berkeley, USA. Backed by long-standing experience in the area of quality assurance and accreditation, she was Deputy Secretary General of the European University Association (EUA) from 2001 to June 2009, at which time she became its Senior Adviser. From 2002 to 2008 she was a member of the organizing committee of the European Quality Assurance Forum (QAF). She is also on the Editorial Board of the Journal for Higher Education Management and Policy (IMHE/OECD), besides being a member of the steering committee of the Belgian Agency for the Evaluation of the Quality of Higher Education (AEQES). She has taught at a variety of institutions and has led diverse projects in the quality assurance area.

Padraig Walsh, PhD

Born in 1960 in Dublin, Ireland. Holds degrees in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering from University College Dublin (BE, PhD) and the University of Missouri (MSc). From 1984-2001, he worked as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Bioprocess Engineering at Dublin City University (DCU). In 2001, he was appointed as Director of Quality Promotion at DCU. In 2005, he took up his present position as Chief Executive of the Irish Universities Quality Board (IUQB), which is a member agency of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and is also listed on the European Quality Assurance Register (EQAR).

He currently serves on the Scotland Committee of the UK Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for Higher Education, the Steering Committee of the European University Association (EUA) Institutional Evaluation Programme (IEP) and on the Board of ENQA.
