Dr. Grolimund studied German and English philology at the University of Basel, Switzerland, and the University of New Mexico, USA, earning a doctorate in German linguistics and older German literature. From 1989 to 1998 he was an assistant in the Department of German Philology and Older German Literature, and from 1995 to 1999 he functioned as director of the Coordination Center for Further Education at the University of Basel. He was a scientific consultant on the ETH Board from 1999 to 2010. Member of the ENQA Board since April 2013. |

Granted various scholarships by the European Commission, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the American Field Service (AFS Intercultural Programs). Active since 1995 within European higher education mobility programs and policies. Was Assistant Director of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Sweden in 2000–2002. | |

| Born 1959 in Muri near Bern, Mr. von Steiger graduated from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) with a degree in environmental engineering. He extended his studies to cover soil science, applied statistics as well as research and higher education policy. He received a Certificate of Teaching Ability at the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich where he engaged in research and teaching from 1990 to 1998, and was a scientific employee on the EPFL staff, Delegation of Education and the Quality Committee from 1998 to 2008. From 2007 to 2008 he was also a delegate of the Rectors' Conference of the Swiss Universities (CRUS) on the subject of cooperation between universities and the army, and in the years 2008 to 2009 he was responsible for quality assurance in an analytical laboratory dealing with drinking water and the environment. |
